Chance York, he/him, Minneapolis

Chance York is a Yoga instructor, mindfulness educator, and co-founder of Peace in Practice, a nonprofit committed to developing and nurturing professionals for BIPOC yoga and mindfulness. He is a longtime advocate for integrative health and wellness with an extensive resume. Currently, he teaches mindfulness for the University of Minnesota at the Earl E Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing, and studies at Brown University in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher program.

Marcus Stanback, he/him, Baltimore MD

Marcus began practicing yoga in 2016 and saw a need for more black male instructors. He decided to do 500 hours of training from 2018-2019 and go on several retreats while taking hundreds of formal yoga classes of many different styles, all to deepen his understanding of yoga. His true calling is to guide the guides. He has great technical yoga expertise and has been successful in guiding other instructors to teach with more technical awareness and efficiency.

Rondy Isaac, aka Chocolate Buddha (he, him, dude), Oakland, Ca

Rondy Isaac is the founder of Barbershop Yoga. Barbershop yoga was constructed with the Black experience in mind, a way for Black males to access yoga in a setting that was designed for familiarity, comfort, and brotherhood. Our mission is for healing, connection, and “Rehumanizing Black.” We re-affirm our humanity by “trimming our trauma” with group dialogue and yogic practices.

Brandon Jamaal Stroud/B is a two spirited queer Child of the African Diaspora whose ideologies focus on the Blackademics journey in higher education. As the new program manager for the UCSF Black Wellness Center and Black Women’s Health & Livelihood Initiative, B’s primary focus is creating engaging programmatic opportunities for Black women, gender diverse bodies, and families. B is founder of BYoself Yoga and has been able to merge yoga and mindfulness throughout K12, collegiate, and corporate environments. B hopes to invite individuals into conversations around body dysmorphia across marginalized communities, while also highlighting the livelihood issues Black and Indigenous bodies face on a daily basis. As peace is not a silent journey, Brandon has continued training and learning about holistic wellness practices to support these communities. Through hip hop theory, connecting the impact of post traumatic slave syndrome across history, and yoga, B hopes to bring engaging dialogue around the concept of radical self-care. B is a full spectrum doula and birth worker with a focus on Queer and Trans birthing bodies and support systems. B is also currently finalizing their last 200-hour yoga teacher training, placing them as an 800 certified yoga instructor with focus on youth, perinatal, accessible yoga, and yoga across the lifespan. With a life mantra of “Stay hydrated, eat your fruits & veggies”, B continues to create change in capitalistic and corporate settings that hinder anyone's authentic self and personhood from being presented. Brandon/B's pronouns are any/all but preference is either Brandon/B to continue to highlight the gifting of names throughout one's life.

Reginald Hubbard, he/him/his - DC Metro Area

Reggie is the founder/chief serving officer of Active Peace LLC. His yogic and meditative practices have served as a sanctuary of peace and perspective while navigating the stresses of being a black man in the world and serving in pressure-filled jobs at the height of US politics. His practices have also helped him navigate complicated emotions (anger, grief, disappointment) to find and nurture peace of mind and ease of spirit, which is why he now seeks to share them widely for the well being of all. Reggie's life work sits at the intersection of bringing more peace and balance to activists; guiding the wellness community toward being more engaged, concerned citizens; enhancing the well-being of all walks of life; and, shifting the world toward more justice for all. Through Active Peace LLC, he teaches and advises all walks of life to enhance well-being as a foundation rather than an afterthought, shifting culture and improving outcomes personally and professionally. In addition to advanced training in yoga and meditation, Reggie received a B.A. in philosophy from Yale University and an MBA in international strategy from the Vlerick Business School in Belgium.

Nero Akpoyoware (he/him) / nomadic

Nero is a Nigerian-born Queer man who’s ancestry stems from the Yoruba and Urhobo people. He serves his community as a certified Yoga instructor, nutrition coach, Ayurvedic practitioner, fitness trainer and award-winning teacher. He has a dynamic teaching background with learners from diverse walks of life; he has worked in classrooms, gyms, clinics, hospitals, senior living communities, and online platforms where he has had the pleasure to connect with folx from all over the globe. His teaching philosophy encourages learners to arrive and explore as their authentic selves. Nero incorporates mindful movement, metacognition, & trauma-informed embodiment practices to facilitate a holistic learning experience. His work is centered on lovingly disrupting limiting belief systems, celebrating intersectionality, and harmonizing with nature.

Ali Haji (he/him/his) Dallas, TX, LPC, PATP, RYT

Ali Haji is the owner of YogaZama, a boutique yoga studio in Dallas, TX, and the YogaZama 200 Teacher Training, a Yoga-Alliance certified training that integrates an understanding of the nervous system, trauma, and neuroscience with yogic philosophy and practice.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin & Northwestern University’s Family Institute, Ali is also a licensed professional counselor and psychotherapeutic yoga practitioner specializing in holistic and complex trauma recovery, psychedelic-assisted therapies using ketamine, psilocybin, and MDMA, and spiritual identity integration. 

With ancestry hailing from the Kachchh district of Gujarat in India and both sides of his family coming from Kenya and Tanzania, Ali feels strongly about teaching the practice of yoga in a way that honors its roots while also recognizing the ways in which we can adapt the practice to the realities of the modern day world.

Cornelius Jones Jr., He/Him/His, Los Angeles

Cornelius Jones, Jr. is founder and creator of YogaBurn, Inc and specializes in Vinyasa Yoga, Barre Fitness, Breathwork, Moving Meditation, and works independently in the field of addiction and recovery as a Creative Arts & Healing Facilitator. Cornelius has led numerous yoga teacher trainings, curated and taught many yoga/fitness hybrid classes, composed and curated curriculums in writing, drama, and movement therapy, and coached yoga teachers on how to sustain their voices while teaching. He is a gifted performance artist, and has danced and sung on Broadway and in theaters across the USA and internationally. In addition, Cornelius is a recent graduate of Sevanti Institute’s Ayurvedic Wellness Program and is excited to deepen his clinical practice with hopes of bringing this holistic and healing modality to underserved black, brown, & queer communities. Danny Angelo Fluker Jr, He/Him

Danny is a conscious creative, wellness consultant, community healing advocate, and 5x author, specializing in meditation, yoga, and mind-body wholeness. As a futurist and healing justice reparationist, he envisions and works towards a future that integrates wellness practices for holistic healing and empowerment. Danny is also the creator  of Black Boys OM, an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing spaces for Black Boys and Black Men to engage in various mind-body health practices. 

 Black Boys OM, founded in 2018, has grown into a transformative force, facilitating over 2,100 mind-body health spaces and boasting a network  collective of more than 400  Black Male Wellness instructor practitioners. Through these spaces, the organization fosters well-being and empowerment within the Black community. Additionally, Danny extends his impactful work to national and international retreat spaces, creating immersive experiences for individuals seeking holistic wellness. 

 In addition to his impactful work with Black Boys OM, Danny is a sought-after speaker and instructor, sharing his expertise in mind-body wholeness through workshops and talks in schools, universities, retreat centers, private celebrity events, and corporate spaces and conferences. How long is the course?

The course is self paced- and 18 weeks long.

Special Note:"Week" as defined in this course is 12-15 Days each. For example, Week 1 is 12-15 Days, Week 2 is 12-15 days. When navigating this 18 Week course at your own pace, we encourage you to engage with the material for each allotted week within a 12-15 day time span before moving on. This allows time for practice, absorption, retention, and application.

 

Are there in person components of this training?

Yes, the in person components include 70 Yoga classes at a Yoga studio of your choice.  Please see "A Closer Look- What to Expect" Google doc for further details. 

Can I start the training whenever I want?

Yes, this is a virtual on-demand training. The course is now Live . You can complete the 18 weeks at your own pace.

How can I manage the cost of the reading list? It seems quite extensive.

We understand budget concerns. Here are some cost-saving tips:
